I like this fishing game over other kinds because it has patterns on one side of the fishes and letters on the other side.So my kindergarteners spell their name using their caught fishes or try to catch all the fish for each pattern. They can use the two fishing poles provided or the peg cat to catch them.Being magnetic, I can put out mental trays and use hand magnets to move them around the tray. So each child(3-4) children at most,can have swimming fish in their pond. Love it. So worth it.This fishing game was gifted to my son and he loved it so much that I went and bought another one to gift to someone else’s toddler. Beyond the typical fishing game, when we “catch” the fish, we name 3 things that start with the letter on the fish. I like to have toys that are uncommon so it sparks some learning. Can't take the educator out of the Lolli! She has enjoyed it. She is beginning to be able to discern some differences so that has increased the challenge when I request a certain color or number. Good toy. The flip side is a little challenging for her but she will figure it outI ordered this fishing game for my home daycare. I'm always looking for ways to teach through play so that the kids (ages range from 9 months-5 years) have fun while learning. I am extremely happy with this purchase. i opened it up and just had one little boy (age 3) come sit with me. we tried the ocean side first but he got overwhelmed with so many letters and really just wanted to swing the fishing pole around and catch anything and then move on to the next which took a bit of the learning out of it since i wanted him to try find specific letters or just name the letter he caught. I LOVE the fact that they made the "ocean" reversible. sliding a few into the hole and then using the person to only be able to pull one out at a time really allowed him to focus on the activity instead of the swinging fishing line. I had pulled it out as an end of day activity while waiting for pick up and he was loving it so much that he didnt want to stop playing it. he was so excited to show it to his mom and wanted her to sit down and play the game with him at daycare. Monday when he returned it was the first thing he said to me. "ms amanda can we play the letter fishing game again?" i call that a win!!!i only give 4 stars because i do wish the magnet on the bottom of the peg person was a little bit stronger since the fish did tend to drop while he was trying to drag them to the hole. otherwise this is definitely a must-have for anyone with pre-school age children.I bought this educational game for my friend’s 3 year old boy. It's two sided so was a great gift for both a 3 yr old and 6 yr old. The younger one could fish on the easier side while the older one could be challenged to fish in ABC order to make it harder. The fish aren't very large, but overall a fun toy!This game is a great little game for learning the alphabet and colours.My eldest is 3 years old and he enjoys catching the fish with the magnetic fishing rod. He is none the wiser that we are learning while we play. Win win.We mix it up how we play the game. Here are some examples of what we do when we catch a fish:1. Read the letter that is written down.2. Say the colour of the fish.3. Say the phonics.4. Come up with a word that starts with the letter we have just caught.I feel this toy would be beneficial from around the age of 2 when your little one is starting to say the alphabet and say different colours. I will be using this with my youngest when she approaches that age.This is absolutely gorgeous, so well made and the colours are stunning. I think it is beautifully made but a little on the expensive side. It helps with counting and learning the alphabet.
